Before you can publish an ebook on Zayvay, you check a box that says you own the rights to publish it.

That box is a real legal thing, not a formality. By checking it, you're confirming:

  • You wrote the book yourself, OR
  • You're the legal copyright holder, OR
  • You have written permission from the copyright holder to publish on Zayvay.

A few cases that come up:

  • Self-published authors: you almost always qualify. Your KDP or IngramSpark books are yours.
  • Traditionally published authors: check your contract. Most trad publishing contracts assign exclusive distribution rights to the publisher, which means you probably can't put the book on Zayvay without their sign-off.
  • Public domain works: fine. You don't own them but they don't need owning.
  • Translations: the translator holds rights to the translation. The original author holds rights to the underlying work. Both need to be cleared.

If you're unsure, don't publish. We'd rather you contact support first than have to take it down later.

Zayvay does spot-check published ebooks and we remove anything posted without rights. Repeated violations end the account.
